In 2021 Voters in the Northwest Fire District (between Depot Rd and Rt 45) in Salem Township approved a 5-year, 1-mil fire levy. That levy will expire in 2026, and the Township Trustees agreed to place a renewal levy on the ballot for the November 2025 election. The Winona Fire Department is the recipient of these funds operating under a contract with the Trustees. Because of this positive relationship with the Voters and Trustees of Salem Township, the WFD has been able to serve you and improve our equipment, facilities, and training. Accomplishments and investments since 2021 include the following:
- Purchase of a 2023 pumper (Engine 93),
- Purchase of a 2019 Ambulance to replace the 2008 one,
- Upgrade the lighting on Engine 95 and Rescue 99,
- Upgrade our radio system to the MARCS system, improving communications during mutual aid incidents,
- Added two bridge hydrants in Salem Twp.,
- Acquired needed EMS equipment (power cot, heart monitor, and CPR devices) through fundraising, donations, and levy funds,
- Replaced the shingle roof of the station with a metal one
- Acquired a new drone with improved features,
- Replaced a non-working siren with a new one with tornado warning capabilities,
- Replaced dated fire hose with new,
- Leveraged our funds in applying for state and federal grants,
- Financially supported EMS & Firefighter personnel to earn advanced training certifications.
The funds received from the fire levies from Salem and Butler Townships have allowed us to be fiscally responsible and progressive in our operations.
We thank you for your continued support and request that you vote “FOR” the renewal of the fire levy for another five years.
